Milk & Honey: Design Your Own Shoes!?

design your own here!

My friend Jen emailed me yesterday to tell me about this amazing company, Milk & Honey. What's the big deal with this shoe company, you ask? You can design your own shoes! Yes friends, you can choose flats or heels and design until your heart is content!

The founders are two sisters, Ilissa and Dorian Howard (pictured above), with a passion for shoes. The company was born when the two discovered: "1) We didn’t want to have to take out second mortgages to support our shoe habit and 2) Sometimes we just couldn’t find want we wanted and that was simply not okay."

The website features a ready-to-wear section, an inspiration gallery, and a design-your-own program. I just played around with it for a while and designed two adorable pairs! Pair number one: Pink flats with a peep toe and a little ballet bow. Pair number two: Black skinny heels with a round peep toe, sand Mary Jane strap, and sand heel. Love! I didn't buy them (yet), but I will continue to play around until I design the perfect pair!

There are a number of other great categories such as animal friendly, bridal, and greatest hits (their best sellers).

Warning: If you do choose to visit the website, you will more than likely end up spending hours using the shoe-builder program...I warned you!

Happy Halloween: My Favorite Looks

Happy Halloween weekend! I'm still deciding between Rainbow Bright and Dennis the Menace (What's with me and cartoon characters!?)...so we'll see what I whip up, and I'll blog about it later (IF it turns out).

Kandee Johnson is a fabulous and talented make-up artist. If you haven't heard of her, look her up. She has a couple of blogs, both of which feature how-to's on makeup application. She teaches everything from how to apply foundation to how to become Snow White. She is quirky and adorable as well. Here are a few of my favorite costume looks she's done. Maybe I'll attempt one next Halloween!

Headboards: Inspiration

Long gone are the days where headboards are always attached to the bed or a part of a matching "bedroom set". For the past 10 years, we've seen the rise in popularity of do-it-yourself headboards, custom-made headboards, and unique creative headboards. Look in any home magazine, or watch any HGTV show, and you'll see some type of custom-made headboard.

I really like all of these ideas:

Philosophy: Purity Cleanser

Purity Cleanser by Philosophy has to be my number one favorite cleanser of all time. First of all, it smells wonderful, just like all of their products do. It's actually "fragrance-free", but the natural smell of the product is light and clean.

This cleanser is one of Philosophy's top selling products for good reason. My skin is so clean and so soft after washing with it. Bonus: It doesn't dry out my skin like almost every other cleanser out there.

It comes in a few different sizes, so you can purchase a small size to try it out. Sephora often has the mini bottles near the cash registers for "last minute" purchases.

With the Winter season fast approaching, I highly recommending testing out this cleanser.

PS. They have a sale on skin care right now, through the website!

I Love Lockets

Ever since I was a little girl, I've always been intrigued and a little obsessed with the idea of lockets. I read a lot of adventure and mystery books as a child, and I think that lockets made an appearance as a mysterious object in many of them. (The above picture is how I imagined the lockets in my books) Maybe that's where my love of lockets started.
Even now as an adult, lockets remain magical and lovely in my mind. I often find myself searching "antique lockets" and "history of lockets" in my down time.

Here are some gorgeous lockets that I would love to add to my jewellry box:

Monday's Blog/Runway/Contest Links

I know that all of the Resort and Spring 2011 shows have come and gone, and we will definitely talk about them soon, but I'm just enjoying this gorgeous Fall season so much! Plus, the holidays are coming soon, and there is an abundance of fresh ideas for holiday evening wear in the Fall shows.
So for now, let's sit back and take in the treat that is 3.1 Phillip Lim Fall 2010. I love the large graphic prints, trousers/suspenders, and asymetrical dresses. Here are my favorites:

I hope you all have a messy bun, warm sweater, giant coffee mug and slippers kind of weekend! (I might glam it up with some thick black eyeliner like this girl...)

Bitter is the New Black

"She's like that friend who always says what you're thinking--just 1000 times funnier." - People

I recently had a delightful lunch with my friend Jen (who's baby was due yesterday!!!). We were talking about things that really piss us off and/or annoy the he** out of us, and it reminded me of these books by Jen Lancaster. She writes these absolutely hilarious and honest books about the things in life that drive us to the brink of mental breakdowns. The great thing about her writing is that even though she sounds bitter (she even admits this readily), she makes it light and funny. The books are laugh-out-loud hilarious, especially Bright Lights Big Ass (A Self Indulgent, Surly Ex-Sorority Girl's Guide to Why It Often Sucks In the City, or Who Are These Idiots and Why Do They All Live Next Door To Me?) . The BEST part: the books are non-fiction, so it's not like traditional chick lit.

Here are a few quotes to sum up her writing:

"She's bitchy and sometimes plain old mean but she's absolutely hilarious." - Chicago Sun Times

"Lessons we've learned from Jen Lancaster: Bitter is the new black; Target is the new Neiman's; pit bulls and surly neighbors are the new Samantha's, Charlotte's, and Miranda's, and midday whiskey is always a good idea." - Jennifer Weiner, author of In Her Shoes

Check out her blog here, which is also seriously funny. I want her as my co-worker / friend / neighbor.

Lamps

Lamps don't have to be boring! I'm in the middle of planning my living room makeover, so I'm flipping through tons of magazines and looking at my favorite blogs, and there are a lot of great ideas out there for lamps. I'm hoping that I can just re-use the shades that I have and re-cover them in new fabric or ribbon. Yet another craft night! If that doesn't work out, a new lamp will definitely be on my shopping list.

Here are some images that I've come across in my hunt for the perfect lamp:
